Meet The Chef
Michael T. Glenn
Though Glenn went on to earn degrees in biology and chemistry from Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss., nurturing ambitions of becoming a doctor, that Bewitched memory kept haunting him. There was magic in food.
Inspired to develop his inspiration into craft, he earned a Chef’s Certification from Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham. There he learned to meld classic French technique with Southern styles of cookery. Thus, he is as comfortable creating Chinese dumplings and roast lamb en croute as he is whipping up Cajun fried turkey, roast ham with bourbon and apricot glaze, and collard green and cornbread soufflé.
As founder of Creative Catering by Ambrosia, Glenn is able to display his considerable flare for culinary artistry. He crafts elaborate tiered cakes and catering displays rich in roses, lilies, green apples, cockscomb and pussy willows for example.
Glenn is also the founder of GaBriella’s Bistro and Art Gallery and was executive chef at Blue Cross, Blue shield for 24 years.
He has hosted numerous celebrities and dignitaries during their visits to Birmingham. He has cooked for former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, President George H.W. Bush, comedian Bill Cosby, pop/country singer-songwriter K.D. Lang, and Auburn and NBA star Charles Barkley, who is also Glenn’s cousin.
He has also crafted events for 2009 Miss America Katie Stam and regularly hosts Miss Alabama Pageant events throughout the year. In recognition of his continuous support, the Miss Alabama Pageant announced a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded in Glenn’s name in 2004.
Glenn has served as president of the American Liver Foundation, and is a board member of the Alabama Head Injury Foundation, and the Diabetes Trust Foundation. He is also a supporter of the Civil Rights Institute and the American Culinary Federation.
His numerous awards include Minority Businessman of the Year from Birmingham Business Resource Center, Alcorn State University Alumni of the Year, and Miss Alabama Volunteer of the Year.
Dedicated to honing his distinctive culinary style, Glenn is a passionate proponent of preserving and expanding the traditions of Southern culinary culture. It’s a passion you can taste as well view in all of its sensory richness. Like magic.
